Changes at the Google Local Business Center

The first big change is the reporting dashboard which is described by Google in a video targeting SMB owners:

Another change is …

It looks like Google is playing with not allowing anyone but the business owner to change the listings, which if they follow through with will come as a great relief to business owners who have claimed their listings. To illustrate this let’s go to a business listing like the one shown in the image.
It used to be that if you clicked “edit” you would get another screen that would allow you to do so, but look what I encountered this morning when I clicked “edit”…

  1. This is a big relief, correct.

I think the next step that would tailor to business owners is having a system for answering or creating dialogue for business owners to answer negative reviews. This can be really detrimental to a newly opened businesses.

How easy is it to claim a business listing is yours, when it really isn’t yours?

  3. Camping on a bit with JeffMHoward’s comment, I have long wished for a business owner discussion platform/forum. While all customers, especially these days, are good customers, occasionally you run across a difficult one. It would be great to have a platform to discuss and offer tips for business owners.

Back to Google Business Center, I personally think owner involvement/validation is a great thing.
