I am congratulating SEOmoz not only on their new office (which looks cool as poo).
But more for their new hires. I think one of the better moves they have made was to hire Jennifer.

Jennifer Lopez
I do not know the inner workings of SEOmoz, but I can confidently say that Jennifer is one of the more impressive people I have met and dealt with in the last few years (I don’t remember when we actually met, but as you all know I am usually drunk).
One of the first conversations about Jennifer I ever had was someone accusing me of “trying to steal her”. I sorta was. update: I was trying to “steal” her because she was a talented developer who understood stuff I was talking about. She was clearly a talent.
She really got what I was talking about when I talked (and for anyone who has ever talked to me you know that is a feat). Later, for another company I suggested we use her, and when I contacted her that time, she again understood what I wanted, and she provided a very professional outline for the project.
When she was applying for SEOmoz she asked if I would recommended her, well the truth was, I would have jumped through rings of fire for her to get that job. One of my happier moments was when I learned they had hired her.

Danny Dover
The other impressive person I have always admired is Danny Dover, who started writing great straightforward posts that in my opinion had been missing since Matt left. In addition to being smart and able, he also had the balls to accept my invitation to fly out to Arizona one time for a party where I was supposedly going to drink him under the table.
I didn’t, but in my defense I was drinking for hours before he showed up.
But the real point here is that Danny writes really useful stuff. I admire that.
Another wonderful new hire is Joanna Lord.
Joanna Lord

Joanna is like 27 times smarter that anyone talking to her realizes.
I am not sure what her role will end up being for SEOmoz, but if they are using her for their clients PPC then they are likely having some very happy clients.
I think nowadays it is alot more clear how talented she is because she has been speaking up a storm at conferences.
What a great addition to an already great staff.
Why am I writing This?
I used to be an avid contributor to SEOmoz and I stopped. I have to admit, as many of my contempories know and maybe feel themselves, there was a certain personality to SEOmoz a few years ago.
I had a comfort zone that included Rebecca, Matt, Scott, and Jane. They were a big part of why I was there. It was like a family to me.
Three of those people are now gone, but I really think it is time to take a second look at SEOmoz again, at least that is what I will be doing.
I hope others do too. It has always been a great community and it is chock full of great talent again.
Try them you will like them: SEOmoz blog

So deserving, each one of them. I’m sharing your love for Jen, Joanna & Danny!
Dana, I just realized it is like midnight on Friday
Who the hell posts a post on midnight Friday? Oooops.
I was just thinking about them so I wrote it. Hope people will read it Monday
They are really great contributors and addition to SEOmoz. I can say that they are one of those intelligent and approachable people in the SEO industry.
I think you have a bit of typo error here:
“Three of those people are know gone” – Now for Know
@Ron thanks for the correction I fixed it.
Wow, Pat. I’m not really sure what to say! I really appreciate you writing this. You were one of the first people I met in the industry and you were so gracious and inviting. I’ve always appreciated that made me feel right at home in the industry and introduced me to many people. The first conference I went to that you weren’t at, I felt lost!
I should add that you tried to steal me from my former employer because I was a developer (and not from my husband for those of you with dirty minds). And yes, you were drunk.
Oh! And we don’t do consulting anymore.
It’s all about the software baby!
Thanks again Pat. I hope to see you around the SEOmoz community again! <3
Also meant to add that Danny and Joanna are pure awesome! They honestly make coming to work much more enjoyable.
Along with Scott we’re the silly foursome in the corner laughing all the time. That is… when we’re not working our butts off.
@Jen as you know, I probably should have written this a while ago. I am honestly impressed with the personnel decisions SEOmoz is making. I have a sense that I will be around more verbally again soon, I have said that before I know, but I am a slow guy. I hope the Youmoz issues I mentioned are addressed, but even if they aren’t expect to see me around. It was a genuine pleasure to me that they hired you because I was worried they weren’t being smart. You were a smart hire imo. Sorry for the compliments, I am back in Puerto Rico where all my internet stuff began and I am feeling alot of feelings and I am kind emo now, but in any case, sorry for the late public congrats, you rock.
Wow Pat I dont know what to say! Thanks for the kind words. I am absolutely stoked to call SEOmoz home. Over the years, like you, I have watched SEOmoz undergo so many changes and I have always respected the people that have worked there. The era of Jane, Rebecca, and Matt were some serious glory days, and ones that I was very nervous following if we are getting all honest on here
but I am excited to be a part of the team you mentioned above. We have some bad ass things coming everyone’s way…more on this will be told when we finally get at the same bar at some point!
Also Pat…you are just an awesome dude. Thanks for writing this, for taking a second look at SEOmoz, AND for finding a way to post a picture of me in my favorite kneesockzzz…courtesy of you and Lisa
As someone who has been critical of SEOmoz in the past, I think it’s important to note that I couldn’t agree with you more. The vibe and community as SEOmoz has undergone a refreshing change and I think the new faces (Jen, especially) are directly responsible for the new feeling over there. It’s great and a huge testament to the power of new blood and infectious excitement.
Congrats to the new crew and to Rand for putting it all together. And thank you to Jen for all the work she’s done behind the scenes to encourage people back and build new bridges. It hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Well, its a good thing I found SEOMoz when I did then! So I can’t relate to the past SEOmoz, but I can definitely understand what you’re saying about the current community and team.
I’ve been reading their blog for just less than a year (technically started the SEO business using their blog) and I must say, there’s something that always keeps me coming back… From the insightful blog posts, to the actual community and feedback too!
So really, congrats to SEOmoz….
When exactly would you say that SEOMoz went wrong for you, ie you didn’t contribute for a while, but now you’re a fan again… so when was the period where it didn’t sit right with you? This post is strange. You liked people who used to be there and you were a fan… then a new crew came along and you’re a fan… but there as a period when you weren’t?
Well shucks…
Its been a while Pat. As I am sure you know, the feeling is mutual. I hope work is going well and that life is good. More posts to come!
Are you in Seattle?
Cheers!
Danny
@Michaela Sorry for the late response – I don’t think it went wrong, I just lost interest in it. That can’t be blamed on them or me, but I just stopped hanging around there, seoMoz for me was really a personal thing, hard to explain. They have been creating fabulous tools and such, and never stopped growing, I just stopped caring. I guess I care again
@Pat that’s a wonderful thing to write up and a great way to reconnect with the SEOmoz community again!
I am a huge fan of SEOMoz because they seem passionate about teaching. You can always learn something new by reading their blog or weekly SEO videos, which helps me be better at my job and more likely to use their products.
Congratulation guys. More power!
Danny Dover created a SEO Cheat Sheet a while ago – 1 or 2 years – that set fire to SEOMoz. He may have set a record for the most commented upon blog entry, d’know. I can say it has proved immensely helpful to me and I refer people to it all the time. I also continue to follow the entry, and see folks are still congratulating and thanking Danny.
All that to say, I agree about Danny and will now view Jennifer and Joanna’s contributions to help keep up-to-date.
How did I miss this post? Jen, Danny, and Joanna are awesome, and you’re awesome. We miss you over at SEOmoz. Take a break from dolphin-rescuing and margaritas and come visit us once in a while
