When Google acquired Doubleclick, they also got a great widget ad platform. DoubleClick started their widget ads program around four months ago. DoubleClick was using Gigya for their widget spread menu, if Google starts using them too, it could almost literally make Gigya the web’s defacto viral spreader. ClearSpring, Widgetbox, and other platforms / viral installers should be looking at this in my own opinion.
Doubleclick widget ads are created from the basic rich media ad templates, some of which are very, er… scary functional…

There are no real technical challenges for these ads, so the gadget ads can be be “cross” Google and DoubleClick ad networks immediately.If you are developing a widget ad campaign, you may want to look at both Google and DoubleClick for options.
