Feed Images in the Google Gadget Directory

Question:
What does SearchEngineLand have that Matt Cutts and SearchEngineWatch doesn’t?
Answer:
An image with their feed gadget in the Google gadget directory.
Having an image next to your feed really distinguishes you from the crowd and since like 90 percent of the feeds in the Google gadget directory do not have an image, it is an easy way to truly stand out.
But how do you get one?
The image that is the default for feed gadgets is the “feed” symbol I have labeled “poop”, the Google gadget directory shows the default image when there is no other image associated with the feed.
Er, okay, then how do you associate an image with a feed?
The way I know how to do it is through FeedBurner. If you are using FeedBurner for your feeds…
1) Log into your feedburner account
2) Choose your feed and go to the “Optimize” tab.
3) Choose “Feed Image Burner” from the menu on left
4) Follow the instructions on that page.
Okay, you are done. There is now an image associated with your feed.
If you are not using feedburner…
How to add an image / logo to your feeds
Want to see the image I have for my feed?…
(click on it, see what happens.,. you know you wanna…)
Okay, so I am not a branding expert
I was drunk and I found it funny.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for your igoogle gagdget tutorials! Well, I did click on your “crappy but oddly compelling SEO blog” image link & noticed that igoogle has the “crappy” standard feed logo showing for your gadget. So, I can’t help but wonder if something has changed in regards to being able to simply add an image via Feedburner to have that image appear as the gadget image as well. That is actually a question
Also, just an fyi, the Gadget Editor doesn’t seem to work anymore so I was unable to actually play along with your tutorial & create a gadget using it. But, thanks to another wonderful post by you, maybe I will have some luck making a gadget via dapper. Not sure I have the skills to make a gadget from scratch. Of course, I could always just use a feed & have igoogle create the gadget for me. Guess where I learned to do that? Thanks for all of your very useful info!
Regards,
Alan
