Why do I keep writing abut gadgets? I think they have a big place in the future of search behavior, and they hold many possibilities for attracting and retaining visitors to your website or brand. Even if you just put up a gadget page for your visitors, you would be surprised at the traffic you will get.
People just seem to like gadgets.
An example of a web page providing gadgets that are related to their industry is Twizi hostels where I have put up a travel Google gadgets page. It isn’t very fancy, but people spend alot of time on it, and it is becoming a popular place, even though it isn’t even in Google yet. Gadgets are a great playground for your visitors.
On this page is a place where they can put the gadget I built for Twizi on their homepage, so when they search from their homepage, they use my hostel search gadget, and… not… use… Google!!!! (where all those pesky competitors are). It doesn’t hurt that other gadgets on that page are mine too! If you have a web site about literature, why not display some gadgets that give quotes from famous authors? Help your visitors stay up date with the coolest news gadgets. Your site about dogs? How about displaying a page of dog gadgets? (yes, they exist, just like cat gadgets do) You talk about YouTube alot? Display some cool YouTube Gadgets. You do not have to have a gadget for your brand to benefit in the interest of Google gadgets.
Gadget Tip for webmasters: Google has a directory, not only of gadgets for your iGoogle homepage, but they also have one for gadgets for your website too. In the “add to website directory” you can browse gadgets and get the code to display a live gadget on a blog or webpage. It takes like five minutes to search for some gadgets that would be useful for your visitors and create a page to display those gadgets.
