Google gadgets and the iPhone

iGoogleThe iGoogle page for iPhone announcement has already made it’s way across the web a few times, and I have very little to add, except that…

Google gadgets now work on the iPhone iGoogle page.

I have made a gadget that simulates what this looks like with your iGoogle page, and the gadgets you have installed.

This is a very very basic view. It is pixel by pixel a correct representation, however since the iPhone displays more pixels per inch, the “simulator” on your computer screen (below) looks bigger than the iPhone. It is only good to check that the size of your gadget will work on the iPhone. If you have not read it yet, I suggest you read Size does Matter, an article about the importance of creating gadgets that resize intelligently.

The iPhone screen is actually very gadget friendly, virtually all gadgets will display without size issues. The pixel size of the iPhone screen is 320 x 480 pixels, a size that encompasses almost all Google gadgets.

The gadget below will display your gadgets from your iGoogle page (actually, if you have tabs, it will only show the the gadgets from the tab your iGoogle page is currently on). You can choose which tab you want by using the drop down menu.

The gadget can be seen here.

This gadget will show you the way you you can minimize and expand your gadgets (but not edit preferences) however it is important to remember that when this page is displayed on an iPhone there are more options than you see in the gadget.

I have an iPhone now. I LOVE the use of gadgets on the phone. My personalized iGoogle home page has turned into my mobile dashboard for my life. I seldom leave that page when on the phone because it already has just about everything I need. I do more personal web browsing on my phone now than on my real computer. iPhone+Google Gadgets has changed the way I spend my free time in a very significant way.

Google really is taking over the internet, or should I say iinternet.

But really its great to see a developer like Google taking the iPhone market very seriously. It extends the life use of the iPhone to great levels.

I don’t have a Google iPhone yet but this one here is a great way to optimise the use of it when I eventually get one.
