The verification process is quick and easy especially if you request the phone call - it's immediate! From Google's POV, I guess $2 per LBL is cheaper (albeit slower) than buying somebody like Localeze.

David, I totally agree, also it is worth noting that one, if so inclined, could call the businesses themselves and tell them to expect a call from google, all they have to do is hit a number on their phone when they receive the call.

No matter what this means for earning potential it almost guarantees that the vast majority of businesses will end up on google maps sooner or later. What is the time limit for the business to respond and the original submitter to get credit? If it is long enough, this could represent a steady stream of income over a period of time as individual businesses respond.

yeah, the 2 bucks is guaranteed, but the remaining 8 dollars depends on the business verifying the info.
I disagree with Matt on this though, I think this is worthwhile for a great deal of people, and with minimum effort and some organization, it would be quite easy to get businesses to verify, it is just an automated phone call now, which is quite easy.

Hats off to Google for pursuing this so hard... but as Matt pointed out (http://www.smallbusinesssem.com/2007/08/07/why-googles-local-business-referrals-will-fail/)...

"Yes, you can earn “up to $10? for every business referral. But only $2 is guaranteed — you get that for submitting the business data to Google. Then you have to cross your fingers that the business owner remembers to send in the postcard or goes online to verify the data you submitted.... It’s silly for Google to think that anyone who’s advanced beyond a newspaper route career is going to want to spend their time doing this for $10 per business, only $2 of which appears to be guaranteed.".

Still... any money is more than no money, so I have no doubt many will take up the challenge.
