How to put a YouTube Video into Google Lively

Let’s get started…

If you know how to add and move furniture already, you can skip most of these steps.
To add a video you must have something to show the video on, like a TV or movie screen. This tutorial will step you through how to do this.
Add items
Using your cursor, click on the add items button shown below.

This will open a menu and if you look at the bottom there will be a button that says “shop for more” (don’t worry, it’s free)

When you click that a new window will open and take you to the Lively Item Catalog. Search for “Jumbotron” (this is a gadget enabled screen that allows you to add video).

Make sure to choose the one that says “Jumbotron (with video)”. When you click it you will be taken to the detail page.

Click “add to my inventory”. This item will now be available from your room.
Now go back to your room…

Use the search form at the top of your inventory to find the item we just added – “jumbotron”. Or you can browse for it as well.
Click on the item…

When you click it you will see an option to add it to room, click that.
Great! the jumbotron is now in your room (often on the floor). Let’s move it onto a wall. To do this we need some space so let’s get out of the inventory window by clicking the “x”…

Now we have the whole room to look at, let’s move it to the wall.
Moving Items

To move it to the wall we must be able to move items, to do this click the “move stuff” icon as shown above.
When you put your cursor over the jumbotron (the big black thing on the floor) or any other movable item you will see a green circle appear…

when you have the green circle, you can move that item around with your mouse if you hold down the left mouse button.

Move the item to the wall. To spin the item around, put your cursor over it until you see a beige circle, which will allow you to spin the item.
Now that we are done moving the item, let’s click the move icon once more to deactivate it…

Now we can add Youtube videos to the screen.
Adding video
Place your cursor over the jumbotron until you see your cursor become a large white arrow then right click and a window will appear.

Click the “edit” tab near the top of the window.

Click on the “gadget options” button shown above. A window will come up that will let us (finally) put the YouTube embed code in…

Now you can add the embed code of your favorite video and it will start playing in your room!

If you don’t know what an embed code is, don’t worry, it is real easy. Go to Youtube and choose a video. Next to each video there is usually a choice to “embed”…

That’s all folks…
