Kosovo Independance

Some photos in a gadget of the independence celebrations…

I love Kosovo, and lived there for several years. I watched the war start and I stayed there until it was over, and then some. I met the woman of my dreams there, and I am very happy that Kosovo will be recognized by the international community. It is a beautiful place. I remember getting woke up early on a March morning nearly ten years ago by the bombs, and how everyone was smiling even though the bombs were falling because the bombs signaled the US intervention. We just started drinking and celebrating, good stuff. That was a good day.

For those wondering why the American flag is in these celebrations, well, a long time ago in America we would help other countries simply for humanitarian reasons. If you are like 25 or younger this sadly might seem weird, since for the last 8 years or so we haven’t been dong that so much. We just have been invading or supporting oil rich countries, but it used to be we would actually help other countries without the greed factor. Hopefully we will get back to that America soon. In 1999 the US led an UN military effort to stop the ethnic cleansing of native Albanians in Kosovo.

That effort is a big part of why Kosovo can now declare it’s independence.

Update: I am very slanted in my views of Kosovo because of my history there.

Pat Buchanan actually just published an interesting article about Kosovo’s independence declration. The link is Here .

Bob, I read the article, there are some huge factual errors in it. Alot of my friends there were killed, and I have scars from that war on my body.
I don’t think Buchanan is a good source of information about what occurred during that war, however, there is always a place for opinion and his opinion has a couple of merits.
But using his logic, the French should not have got involved with America during our independence war.
I have lived much of my life in different wars and I always am amazed by the religion thing. Sometimes it is Muslims killing Christians, sometimes it is Christians killing Muslims, but in Kosovo it was Christians killing Muslims, I don’t think Buchanan ( a conservative Christian leader) likes to admit that. And he says that the death toll of Albanians was 1 percent of the death toll of the civil war. Probably true, but consider that the population of Kosovo is a tiny percent of Americas population was.
All religions are equally yummy in my book, and that article has an anti-Muslim slant, so it is hard for me to give it much credence. But I thank you for submitting that link cause differing opinions are always good to have. Perspectives are neat, I do not in any way think I am more right than someone else, or that my perspective is the best one. I am often a dumbass :)

But Russia doesn’t appear to support the declaration of independence by Kosovo and that in itself is already a time bomb waiting to explode. Just my opinion.
