Trial Google Gadgets Ad Campaign

November 27, 2007 · 1 comment

Have you noticed that unless you are a multi-billion dollar corporation it is kinda tough to have a Google gadget ad account?

That has changed.

It was announced in the Google gadget API group that developers can now create accounts designed to explore the possibilities of Google gadget ads by creating trial campaigns . This is a real important step since it is probably a pretty good idea to have people capable of making the ads Google wishes to sell :)

I want to review this more before I give my real opinion on it, however I can say that companies need to start being as developer friendly as possible. Developers who are just testing things out can be your best friend.

Any company who is looking into Google gadget possibilities would do well to have their developers sign up for this.

How to set up a trial Google gadget ad campaign

1) Get AdWords
If you do not have a Google Adwords account, you must create on to participate in the trial (click on the button below to create an account)…

2) The steps and info Google requires…
Configure your campaign and set the targeting on how you want the ad to run. Don’t worry about the creative because Google will be adding this for you. Please make sure you do this before contacting them. They require the following information…

Developer Info:
– Full Name
– Email address
– Location (City/State/Country)
– Expertise: Flash, AJAX, Google Maps, etc.

Program Info:
– How many other Google Gadgets have you built?
– Why are you interested in gadget ads?
– What do you intend to learn by experimenting with gadget ads?
– Briefly describe the gadget ad you wish to build.

AdWords Account Info:
– Login Email
– Name of Gadget Ad Campaign
– Name of Gadget Ad Ad Group
– Gadget Ad URL
e.g. http://www.mysite.com/gadgetad.xml
– Destination URL (primary/main URL you want users to click through)
e.g. http://www.mygadgetad.com
– Display URL (the URL you want users to see if we displayed one for
your ad)
e.g. MyGadgetAd.com

3) Where to send the info…

The above info must be sent to Google at the email address listed in the Google announcement (it is in the second paragraph)

This will get you started.

4) Google will contact you…

When we receive your request, we’ll be sending a Terms & Conditions
agreement to the contact email address that’s registered in your
AdWords account. Note that this can be different than the email
address you specify under ‘Developer Info’. So remember to look for
it under the correct email account. Once the terms are agreed to,
we’ll go ahead and book your gadget ad.

That’s it!
