Why you should be careful with titles

My Last article had the title…

When God closes the door of “porn” he opens the window of “naked midgets swinging on chandeliers“.

That title is long and clunky and it also contains the words “naked, midgets, and swinging”. Because it has those words I am now getting visitors from er, interesting sources. SEOish was ranking number one for “naked midget swinging” in Google for a little while. Yes, I am getting traffic from that.

Also of note is my new design, let me know what you think. Secret Society members, thank you for the emails and I will be responding soon. If people keep joining, I might have to set up a login page where we can communicate better and I can lay out some secret plans.

Stay tuned. Tomorrow I will be posting an article that was inspired by Rand Fishkins post “If you could ask anything of a search engine what would it be?” on SEOmoz.

It made me wonder what I would ask the major names of SEO if I just had one question. In brief, I contacted the rock stars of SEO and asked them this (paraphrased - more juicy specifics tomorrow) …

“What can a person do to make their website soar if they only had 100 dollars to spend?”

Tomorrow I will publish their answers. Who are they?

Aaron Wall, Andy Hagans, Andy Beal, Lee Odden, Neil Patel, and Todd Malicoat (Stuntdbl) to name a few.

Like I said, stay tuned :)

Definitely think the site looks a more slick, and a lot cleaner.

Conversely however, the cleaner design seems to give the impression of a place I would be less likely to hear fart jokes.

    Pros and cons… sigh.

Yeah, this is true.. I had to struggle over the tag line and if I should keep it or not. I chose to keep it, this really is just me practicing and experimenting with blogging so I aint too scared. Everyone else can have professional taglines.

    I choose fart.

That would be a great tshirt…

You make, I buy… easy huh?

Seriously though, I see your dilemma. But you know, it’s working for you. I’m new to the scene, but it’s certainly helping you stick out, at least to me. And with the plethora of seo blogs out there, that can only be a good thing.

    Just a comment:
Your heading image gets adblocked - call it something else — the page looks empty without it, lol

You can’t tab from the name fields to the comment field, grrr.

Ok, that was two. See, I can still count. Otherwise nice :).

Thanks, I appreciate it. If you are new, I can honestly say that tomorrow’s post will be the most beneficial reading you have. That is not just hype. There is one “answer” that is basically a step by step guide to success, very detailed and many specifics. It is so good I don’t want to publish it, I want to keep it all to myself!

But, I am publishing it. :)

Howdy John!, Thanks, I will check that out.

    A cliffhanger?

    Why I oughta… *shakes fist*

    Heh. I’ll be back tomorrow.

Hmmm, at first I thought I was in the wrong place. It definitely looks more professional, but something doesn’t feel quite right. Maybe if you added some poorly illustrated 40s to the header, I’d feel better about the redesign. :)
